A JOURNEY TO THINK SPECIALLY

Last Monday during my bus journey from Dinajpur to Dhaka I had got an opportunity to introduce with a person as I was on seat beside him. Knowing me have recently earned DVM degree he said his congratulation to me for being a doctor. He continued his saying, being a doctor is a very rewarding experience because they save lives. There are fur difference between the doc and vet, He asked my opinion at the time of talking? I felt a slight scare as he just saying about the matter of feeling of greatness of doctors for their contribution in saving life. Doc and Vet both are engaged in saving life, you have said, so why you differ from each other, I asked him? He turned look to me and took a time to go through his next words. I was little bit getting jealous on doc by thinking his next words would be on the glory of the profession of human doctor as the most of our people do that.

You should not think vet, doc and pediatric surgeon are same in their knowledge and Services. Vets have to deal with many types of animals while a doc has to treat one kind of animal. Yah! There’s a huge difference between how people get treated and how animals get treated, but I’ve always been sure to the situation where both vet and doc are asked to attend a patient. A doc must start with an attempt to know something from his client where a vet and a pediatric surgeon try to diagnose from his stock of learning first. I mean, a pediatric surgeon and Vets have to be able to diagnose what is wrong with the patient when the patient can’t tell them in words. Human doctors usually can get at least some words out of a patient to help find out what’s wrong. Vets do usually have to learn about a variety of animals when it school where a doc do with only human. So obviously a vet worked hard at their course of study.

He was addressing his thought very frequently and I was feeling easy. I tried to say something but he started again, what do you see in our country? There are so many specialists they practice only a certain area of field of disease in a single species, human. But vets?  There is a less opportunity to be specialist for specific field; they are bound to treat wide varieties of diseases in different species of animal. But if you count patients suffering due to physician vet will be less than doc in their fault.

We were talking all of our journey.During last 20 minutes before leaving each other he said something about his professional life and finally suggest me to do my best for the nation.Thanks Mr. Jaman Rahman (Advocate) for not only making my journey pleasant but also thinking us different. Next time I would say more loudly “WE ARE VETERINARIAN NOT SUPERIOR BUT DIFFERENT”
