World Antibiotic Awareness Week during 13-19 November 2017 is being observed globally with the aim to combating antibiotic resistance due to inappropriate use of antibiotics and to encourage best practices about antibiotic use among the general public, health workers and policy makers to avoid the further emergence and extend of antibiotic resistance.
The theme of the campaign is “Antibiotics: Handle with Care”. The theme express that antibiotics are a precious resource and they should be used to treat bacterial infections, only when prescribed by a certified human or animal health professional. Antibiotics should never be shared even with your family or stored for the future use.
The Center For Disease Dynamics, Economics & Policy (CDDEP) has made a network called Global Antibiotic Resistance Partnership, also known as GARP Network. The network was started in 2009 to create a platform for developing actionable policy proposals on antibiotic resistance in low-income and middle-income countries. The network has created an animated video, Superbug Story: Diary of a Staph. The icddr,b has given it a Bengali voiceover, so that you can share it with your friends and family. In the video an animated superbug explains how bacteria develop resistance to antibiotics and finally turn into superbugs, that are resistant to most known antibiotics.
