Now-a-days Ayurvedic medicines are largely used in Veterinary practice. Among the all Ayurvedic products Neem is very important to us. The crude principle of Neem (Azadirachta indica) is tetranortriterpenes, including nimbin, nimbinin, nimbidinin, nimbolide & nimbolic acid. Neem has a wide variety of activities like antibacterial, antiviral, antiseptic, fly repellant, astringent, antiulcer etc. Neem leaf & bark extract shows highly potent aciacid & antiulcer activity. Extract of Neem leaf, Neem oil & Neem seed karnels are effective against certain Fungi including, Trichophyton, Epidermophyton, Microspores, Candidia etc. Oil from leaves, seeds & bark possesses a wide spectrum antibacterial action against Gram negative & Gram positive microorganisms including M. tuberculosis, Streptococcus mutans, S. fecalis & Streptomycin resistance strains. In large & small animals (Cattle, Buffalo, Horse, Camel, Sheep, Goat, Dog, Cat etc.) Neem is used to remove all types of external parasites like ticks, lice, mites, fleas, horn fleas, maggots etc. to remove gastrointestinal parasites, as astringent & help to wound healing. Neem is also used as livestock feed supplement due to having high amount of crude protein. In poultry Neem is used to increase body weight & immunity.
From the above discussion we clearly understood the beneficial effect of Neem in our livestock as interested to say that it is a Divine tree for animals.
